How much does solar cost in Lagos in 2026?
If you ask three installers "how much for solar?" you'll get three wildly different numbers — and all three will swear theirs is the fair one. This guide gives you the honest version: what the parts actually cost in 2026, and a realistic total for three kinds of property. These are the same figures our free sizing tool uses, so you can walk into any quote already knowing the range.
What you're actually paying for
A solar system in Nigeria is really four purchases bundled into one quote. Knowing the unit cost of each is what lets you spot a padded number:
| Component | Indicative 2026 cost | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Solar panels | ~₦650,000 / kW | Panels, mounting and DC wiring. We size around 550W tier-1 panels. |
| Battery | ~₦300,000 / kWh | Tier-1 LiFePO4 (Pylontech, BYD, Dyness). Usually the biggest single cost. |
| Hybrid inverter | ~₦400,000 / kVA | The brain — Deye, Growatt, Victron. Manages panels, battery and grid. |
| Install & balance-of-system | ~₦900,000 | AC wiring, breakers, surge protection, labour and commissioning. |
Figures are indicative midpoints from IsaKiel's pricing model as of May 2026, based on Lagos market quotes. Real quotes move with the dollar (we track the parallel rate, ~₦1,400/$ at time of writing), brand, and how far you are from a major market.
Three worked examples
Here's what those unit costs add up to for three common situations. Each total is a midpoint with a roughly ±15% spread — the band an honest quote should fall inside.
1. Small flat — keeping the essentials on
Lights, fans, phone and laptop charging, a small fridge, a TV. Something like 2kW solar, 5kWh battery, a 3kVA inverter.
- Solar: 2kW × ₦650,000 = ₦1,300,000
- Battery: 5kWh × ₦300,000 = ₦1,500,000
- Inverter: 3kVA × ₦400,000 = ₦1,200,000
- Install & BOS: ₦900,000
Realistic total: ≈ ₦4.2M – ₦5.6M
2. Family home — a normal 3-bedroom
Everything above plus a bigger fridge or freezer, more lighting, a water pump, and comfortable evening use. Something like 4kW solar, 10kWh battery, a 5kVA inverter.
- Solar: 4kW × ₦650,000 = ₦2,600,000
- Battery: 10kWh × ₦300,000 = ₦3,000,000
- Inverter: 5kVA × ₦400,000 = ₦2,000,000
- Install & BOS: ₦900,000
Realistic total: ≈ ₦7.2M – ₦9.8M
3. Large home or small business
A big house, a shop with freezers, or a small office. Heavier daytime and evening load. Something like 8kW solar, 20kWh battery, a 10kVA inverter.
- Solar: 8kW × ₦650,000 = ₦5,200,000
- Battery: 20kWh × ₦300,000 = ₦6,000,000
- Inverter: 10kVA × ₦400,000 = ₦4,000,000
- Install & BOS: ₦900,000
Realistic total: ≈ ₦13.7M – ₦18.5M
Why two quotes for the "same" system can differ by millions
Because the brand and the honesty differ, even when the spec sheet looks identical. The same 6kW system gets quoted at ₦4M by one installer and ₦11M by another — both saying "premium quality". The gap hides counterfeit panels with Jinko stickers, batteries that are mislabelled on capacity, one-year warranties handwritten on a receipt, and installers who collect everything upfront and vanish. You can't fix the market, but you can refuse to be the one who overpays.
How to use these numbers
Don't quote them at an installer — quote the system size. The figures above are only fair if the kW, kWh and kVA are right for your actual usage. Oversize the battery by 50% and the "fair" range moves up by millions. That's exactly what a sizing tool is for: work out the right numbers first, then get three quotes and check each one against the band.
